I love medieval art and always find great inspiration in it, so it's not surprising that I keep imagining and creating artworks in medieval fantasy style. This pair of almost miniatures were created as a diptych. Within this artwork, you will encounter a stylized medieval lion, symbolizing the radiant sun and the day, and a fantastical sea-wolf, representing the mystical moon and the night.
This unique artwork offers a glimpse into a realm of my imagination. Through my artistic exploration, I have crafted each stroke and intricate detail, ensuring that this diptych stands as a testament to the artistry it embodies. The lion, presented within a gold-plated antique-style frame, emanates an aura of nobility, its captivating presence evoking the brilliance of the sun's rays.
Likewise, the sea-wolf finds its place within a silver-plated antique-style frame, its elegance mirroring the enchanting allure of the moonlit night. Together, the lion and the sea-wolf harmoniously coexist, creating a visual contrast that enhances the charm of the entire artwork.
Once again I used the grattage technique, which adds a layer of depth and texture to the artwork. Through the meticulous scraping, scratching, and rubbing of the surface, the grattage technique produces results reminiscent of lithography, lending an air of sophistication and timelessness to the piece.
I tried and captured the naïve medieval symbolism within this diptych. The lion, embodying the power of the sun and the energy of the day, evokes a sense of strength and vitality. Meanwhile, the sea-wolf, with its mystical representation of the moon and the tranquility of the night, invites contemplation and serenity.
