Ancient Egyptian goddess Bastet has a head of a cat, and she embodies all qualities of a cat: beauty, agility, alertness, grace, endless kindness and whims, independence and ability to create coziness out of nothing and to radiate active and playful joy.

Shortly speaking, if you have a cat you know what I mean, and if you don't have... Well, then you have to believe me.

But Bastet isn't a cat goddess. Yes, she is a protector and good friend of all cats, yet Bastet represents the essence of femininity, she is THE woman, THE mother, and she was revered as such even before rise of Isis.

In those ancient times cat-headed goddess Bastet was actually a pacified and calmed form of lion-headed goddess Sekhmet, the benevolent Sekhmet, mother and healer. So beware! This little cat can turn into lioness if offended!

"Never laugh at a cat" said people in ancient Egypt, so don't laugh at this Bastet, however cute and funny she may be.

The crochet Bastet figurine is small, almost falling into category of mini-amigurumi. She's only 14 cm (5.5 inch) tall and she wears removable clothes and jewelry (boots, skirt and necklace) and a traditional gold-tone earring. She has safety eyes and nose, but she's by no means a kid's toy and IS NOT baby-safe. There is a wire frame inside that let's Bastet take different postures.

This crochet goddess is a collectible doll/figurine or 'interior doll', first from the series of unique collectible crochet dolls I'm currently working on.
