Large Wood Burned Keepsake Box with Chinese Phoenix and Peony Design
I have always loved objects that feel both useful and meaningful at the same time — things that quietly become part of everyday life while carrying a story within them. This round wooden box was created with that feeling in mind.
The lid is decorated with a hand wood-burned image of a Chinese phoenix surrounded by blooming peony flowers. In traditional Chinese symbolism, the phoenix represents feminine grace, harmony, and renewal, while the peony has long been associated with beauty, prosperity, and dignity. Together, they form a motif often connected with elegance and inner strength.
The design was burned entirely by hand onto solid wood. I tried to keep the lines flowing and balanced so the bird seems almost in motion, circling gently across the surface of the lid. After finishing the burning process, the box was protected with a glossy water-based varnish that enhances the natural warmth of the wood while keeping the surface smooth and durable.
The box is generously sized and practical for daily use. It works beautifully as jewelry storage, but it can also hold letters, small keepsakes, sewing treasures, or personal memorabilia collected over time. The lid fits securely, allowing everything inside to remain safely stored.
