Celtic Dog Prehnite Sterling Silver Statement Pendant

What drew me to this piece of prehnite was its soft, earthy green and the pale inclusions held inside it. Through the polished translucent surface, they look like small flower petals gathered in the stone. The colour is quiet, with touches of yellow-green and milky white, and the natural pattern gives this small pendant much more depth than its size suggests.

I placed a stylized Celtic dog above the stone. I made the figure by the lost-wax casting technique after an ancient image, then polished the sterling silver to bring out the curves, openings, and small details of the carving. The dog follows the rounded shape of the prehnite closely, and I worked the proportions so the silver and stone would feel balanced as one compact piece.

Animals have always been one of the things I enjoy most in Celtic art. Dogs and hounds appear throughout Celtic stories as hunters, companions, guardians, and figures connected with the Otherworld. Even the name Cú Chulainn means “the Hound of Culann,” showing how closely the image of the hound could be tied to courage and the warrior’s role.

This pendant is small enough for regular wear, and the silver dog figure is hollowed on the back, which reduces the weight and makes it more comfortable. The stone setting is finished with an open cutout pattern, so the reverse side has its own detail and feels complete.
