Chinese Rainbow Ocean Jasper Sterling Silver Statement Pendant
For this pendant, I was looking for a stone with a calm, grounded presence. When I found this piece of ocean jasper, I knew that I wanted to build the pendant around it. Its green is deep and settled, and the shape, slightly wider at the base, gives it the presence of an old carved stone. Large, smooth, and quietly substantial, it became the natural center of the whole piece.
If you look closer, you see lighter traces moving through the green, and small yellowish dots descending in fine vertical lines, like petals caught in the stone and left there. That pattern gives the jasper depth while keeping its calm, earthy character.
I set the stone on a Chinese Rainbow cast in sterling silver. I carved this element by hand in wax first, then cast it and polished it, so the jasper stands on a solid silver foundation. In ancient Chinese tradition, the rainbow could be imagined as a two-headed serpent, a sign joining Heaven and Earth.
On the back, I opened the setting with a cut-out pattern of auspicious clouds because I wanted the reverse side to feel finished, with its own quiet beauty. The silver rainbow is hollowed on the back, which makes the pendant more comfortable to wear.
I see it with linen, silk, wool, or a simple dark dress—something modest and elegant, where the pendant can be clearly seen.
